What is the difference between a wall tapestry, an embroidered tapestry and embroidery? Here is my interpretation:
- My wall tapestries are woven by hand using wool, silk and cotton. They often depict brightly coloured scenes and figures.
- An embroidered tapestry is in fact a copy of a woven tapestry and a favourite for upholstering furniture. I embroider on canvas using wool in petit point (half cross tent stitch).
- When embroidering fabrics, I often use satin stitch and chain stitch in silk and linen, but there are an endless number of embroidery stitches and materials to choose from.
