My own designs are autobiographical, sometimes religious and naive. They are always colourful and I create what I see in my minds eye. Not all of my own creations are for sale, but lots of them are! There’s no harm in asking! Tapestries, whether woven or embroidered take an awfully long time to make. It’ll take at least six months – and that’s pretty fast by all accounts! But if you have the patience, it might be worthwhile considering a bespoke design. Is it expensive? I don’t think so. A bespoke tapestry is a valuable investment and anyone that is happy to invest in a high-quality sofa could consider commissioning a unique and magnificent tapestry. Give it some thought.
You will often see evocative, meaningful and unique textiles in churches and places of worship and meditation. Examples are paraments, liturgy hangings, altar frontals and altar cloths, as well as the stations of the cross. Together with other liturgical design specialists, glazers and artists, we redesign religious interiors. We give them a new look, combining the traditional with the contemporary. Let’s be honest: some churches could do with a well-deserved breath of fresh air!
I love a challenge! What about a tapestry for in a wedding room or a triptych for the lobby of an office building? What about a series of tapestries for the town hall, depicting the town or village and its surroundings? In the middle ages, entire hunting scenes and battles were recorded in great tapestries, so why shouldn’t we do the same with contemporary designs? I would be pleased to oblige!
In 2009, I received a very special request from my mother to make her a pall for over her coffin. It’s a moving and touching thought to be able to design something so personal using religious and secular symbols; something to be taken with you on your journey through life until it’s time to leave it behind for your family. This kind of garment calls for a special kind of dedication and devotion. If it is something you have considered, please feel comfortable coming and talking to me about it. |
